Welcome to Freedom Village!
I want to personally welcome you to Freedom Village, a wonderful expansion of the American Dream. I am a part of a team that you can join to give people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, like Asperger’s and Down Syndrome, a chance to live independently in a safe, connected community.
Freedom Village will have affordable, “state-of-the-art” condominium units that we can own or rent and, best of all, a social life with friends and fun things to do that go way beyond the world so many of us are limited to now.
There isn’t anything like Project FREE today; if there were, my Aunt Kim would have already found it for me. Project FREE is raising the bar and taking the lead in providing opportunity. This “opportunity” is for us to own a condominium at half price because all the housing units have been identified as workforce housing by HUD (Department of Housing and Urban Development). We also have the “opportunity” to apply for financial aid because, as students attending a private “Trade School,” we qualify for tuition as well as earn a marketable certificate. And, we have the “opportunity” to choose employment rather than be placed in meaningless jobs. I am excited about earning minimum wage too; other training programs only pay us pennies on the dollar.
